Karin Johansson Schaftenaar (Uppsala University) and I have received a grant from the Swedish Research Council for a 3-year project entitled “Between Exigency and Backlash: International Responses to Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.”
With transnational anti-feminist and anti-gender movements on the rise, and in a context of major geopolitical transformations, prior commitments to combatting CRSV have weakened in recent years. We will explore to what extent, and how, the commitment to preventing sexual violence in war is contested globally, especially within the UN, and how (erstwhile) norm-promoting states (with a focus on Sweden and Germany) navigate and respond to such contestation.
The project is due to start in 2025.
